BRICK HOUSE

House redevelopment

London, 2011

Before redevelopment

Image

This second project in Wimbledon Village seeks to connect the Edwardian house with the garden by introducing a new staircase linking the three ‘ground’ floor levels in a sequence of almost outdoor rooms.  The materials of the original house are used on a dramatic scale: traditional Midland Red and London Yellow bricks mimic the lightness of pattern achieved on the stone facade of the Doge’s Palace in Venice, and great swathes of slate find their way from the roof into the ground.
