Extension and remodelling of a ground floor apartment to allow a growing family in north west London to work from home.

PHASE ONE was a 45msq rear extension replacing a small lean-to kitchen and conservatory, to house new areas for dining, living and separate studies.  The non-orthogonal plan derives from limits set by planning law, massaged to maximise volume, light and views through the open spaces to the garden and the sky.  Simple adjustments to existing doorways opened up long views through the apartment connecting front and back gardens.  Large sliding wooden panels separate studies from living areas as required.

Phase One:

Contractor:   Mar-Kor

Engineer: INGealtoir

Client: Andrusier Autographs

PHASE TWO included further internal refurbishment and a work studio at the end of the garden. A screen of silver birch trunks cut from the contractor's own farmland resonates with the fine existing birch tree, concealing the bulk of the studio.

The birch ply interior cabinets and wall linings provide a more refined environment.

Phase Two:

Contractor:   Atom Build Ltd

Client: Andrusier Autographs
