ANOTHER

WASTE OF SPACE

Hayward Gallery, London

Unrealised, 2006

The pavilion beneath Starbucks would be served by a traditional ‘greasy spoon‘cafe run by restaurateurs recently evicted as part of Southwark’s regeneration. Pankof Bank believes that through actively engaging people in an unconventional arts space, cultural thought can be communicated to a broad audience including local inhabitants and workers, schoolchildren, dissident Southbank Centre users, such as skateboarders and the homeless, as well as more typical visitors to the Hayward Gallery.

The pavilion would form a new kind of open, inclusive public space, animated by a series of educational activities centered around simple social situations such as eating, dancing or watching a film.

    The project was unrealised.
